'Samarpana', a Rajajinagar based social service agency in Bangalore, recycles discarded school notebooks into fresh ones for distribution among the needy students. Used notebooks are collected from schools and unused blank-pages are removed for rebinding into fresh copybooks (100-200 pages). The scheme, started five years back, initially focused on collection of used books from five Rajajinagar schools. Outcome was 8000 recycled notebooks. Today 'Samarpana' has a citywide network of notebook drop centres that collect enough material to recycle 75,000 copybooks.
