Residents Associations: Where are they ?

Experts are reported to have identified the species suited for planting in Mysore as champaka, pongamia pinnata, cassia spectabills, casia javanica and jacaranda. At the risk of exposing my ignorance I admit some of them are Latin to me. It would help if someone translates, in commonly understood terms, pongamia pinnata, cassia spectabills and casina javanica for the benefit of the botanically challenged such as yours truly.

According to media reports, MUDA, with assistance from the forest department, has taken up tree plantation on the outer ring road, but little work is being done in residential areas. But then this is the kind of actiivity that is best taken up by proactive voluntary groups. Besides, where are the residents associations ? Neighbourhood tree plantation is some thing that is right up their street.

This has reference to exotic botanical names used in the topic. It would be useful if they are indicated by commonly understood naame locally. The best person to contact in this connection is Sri. Yellappa Reddy former Secretary for Environment in govt of Karnataka. He will be more than eager to help us in this regard. His phone number should be got from the Commisisoner MCC
