Voices, a Bangalore-based NGO, is reported to have put in place a community information network at Budikote village, near Kolar. Loudspeakers, placed at strategic public spots in the village relay selected radio programmes on current affairs, sericulture, organic farming, child and reproductive health, and insurance. Kannada newspaper reports are read out on the public address system at the village, five times a day.
(In my primary schooldays I used to escort my grand-father, who visited Gandhi Park at R S Puram, Coimbatore, daily to hear evening news and other AIR programmes relayed through a public address system installed in the park.)
