Some time ago India Today published a report about the survey conducted at thier behest. I was particularly interested about the one targeting the young generation about their attitude ranging from politics, corruption, sexual mores etc. The conclusion based on the survey was our youth for its outwrad and trendy outlook are basically conservative in their views.Particularly about their liberal attitude towars sex they were all open and uninhibited, when it came to marriage they were essentially conservative and preferred the safety of the joint family Particularly, in the realm of politics they evince least interest let alone exercising their franchise. They were all for enjoyment and in race for earning money and that was the end of their ambition. In fact. with people below 35 constituting 70% of the population, they have not been able to change the present wretched political system bursting at its seams with corruption. The only people in politics are the sons and daughters of politicians either dead or living and there is no sense of rebillion in their views and follow whatever ideology their parents hold. With this the challenge is how any reformation in our political system can take place. The other day in the Institute of Engineers there was an interactive session about Autonomy or not for K.R.Hospital. Surprisingly, virtually all those who argued for chaang giving autonomy was the elders while younger people opted for statu qwo ante sugesting tightenign administration. This again indicated that older generation were ore for chnge in tune with times the younger people are afraid of change. The only rebellion that has recently occured is of Kuamraswamy standing against his father. I only hope the trend will catch up.
