A Hanuman temple has come up on KRS Road pavement, near Gokul Theatre, says Satish Kumar Chetty in a letter to 'The Hindu' (May 2, 2005).
A footpath is no place for a temple.Inconvenienced padestrians may put up with it, in devotion to their favourite deity or in deference to the religious sentiments of others. I wonder how devotees can find a pavement, however hallowed, conducive for offering prayers, with all that noise and dust raised by the passing traffic on road. A true Hanuman bakht might consider the very idea of raising an adhoc temple, on an unauthorised patch, an insult to the deity. Besides, places of worship that sprout on pavements have a way of widening their encroachment over a period.
