People used to think that there is a jinx at work whenever the double railway line between Bangalore and Mysore work started. It's true! With the volume of traffic raising to dizzy heights ,going by train remains the cheapest mode of transport. Mysore is touted as  a tourist spot and also a forerunner among II tier cities ,  for industrial growth especially in IT Sector. Yet, for reasons best known to the Govt. and some Ministers  ,they are more keen to develop road which will benefit KSRTC only. They have put enough spokes on NICE project despite the Supreme Court rap on its knuckles. The way the doubling of Railway line  between Bangalore & Mysore is progressing, it might  be completed one day when Visit to Moon would have become a routine affair.

Railway authorities complain that The State Govt, is just not interested in the project, the way they have been dragging their feet in releasing even the funds for work between Ramnagaram and Chennapatna. At this rate when will they take up the rest of the project and when  will the route be electified? The C.M. is 'quick' on the draw  with his 'promises'.If the State Govt. is not interested in moving fast, the Rlys will not bother. It's the State and its people are the losers. They want to promote more costly hitech A/C Buses as against cheaper electric train , say every half  an hour between Bangalore and Mysore. This , from our C.M. who likes to sleep in huts during visits to villages!

The alacrity with which lanes are being added , the way new 'volvo' buses are added every other day by KSRTC, it look like the Govt, is keen to fill its coffers and yet the same time giving cold shoulder to the cheaper mode of transport , the train service. After all Railways . perhaps, cannot match the offer of volvo. whatever that might be !

This is an excellent example of how we as a nation are incapable of planning for the future. When crude oil prices go up, all the ploitical parties are against the government passing the higher oil prices. This results in increasing petroluem consumption which in turn will increase our dependence on foreign oil. This reduces our energy security. One can clearly see this relationship.

But can we also see eaily how double tracking of railways between Mysore and Bangalore is also having impact on India's energy security? Studies have clearly shown that railways will reduce total energy demand in relation to bus and definietly car transporation. By improving the rail transportation we will reduce our petroleum consumption which will be a big contribution to energy security. Energy security should be on the national agenda. But it is not.
